Setting a Table's Title

When converting tables from PDF2XL, especially when you have multiple tables (either by using the Multiple Layout mode or by marking multiple tables), you will probably want to know which data came from which table. You can easily do so by adding a title to tables.

To provide a table with a title, use the following steps:

  1. Select the table layout to be named by selecting any element in it (column, row or cell)
  2. Right-click the selection and select 'Edit Table Title'
    Or
Use the Edit Table Title command from the Table menu
  3. Enter the table title in the Edit Table Title dialog and press OK

Clearing the name in the dialog and pressing OK will remove the table's title. Using the same title for two tables (on the same page or otherwise) will combine their output by the conversion process. This is a powerful mechanism for correctly converting tables that continue into the next page or being broken into two parts on the same page (for example, a table continuing in another column of the same page).

If the table's title appears in the document, you can mark it as the table title using the following process:

  1. Select the table layout to be named by selecting any element in it (column, row or cell)
  2. Select the Mark Title command in the Edit menu
    Or
Use the Mark Title command from the Edit menu
  3. Click-and-drag a rectangle around the text you wish to be the table's title:

The selected table will be assigned the selected text as the title.

If you have multiple tables with the same title, you can use the Copy table title from previous table command from the Edit menu to copy the title. The title will be copied from the previously changed table, or, if that last change was not of a table, from the previous table in the page or document.

You can set PDF2XL to prompt you for a table name each time you mark a table using the Ask for a table's title when created option in the Conversion settings page of the settings dialog.
