Table Layout Types

When you initially mark a table area, PDF2XL will automatically calculate the columns and rows for the table. You will then be able to change those automatic settings to suit your needs; one of the ways to do so is by changing the Table Layout calculation method.
Note that only the first option (Fully Automatic) will re-calculate the columns; all the rest will only effect table rows.

There are seven table layout methods available; all of them except the last two (same row height and manual) will be automatically applied to the table if the table's area is changed (by dragging its borders), or for each page (if the document is not in Multiple Layouts mode):

  • Fully Automatic - the columns and row locations will be re-calculated just like they were initially calculated
  • Rows from Text - Rows will be automatically calculated by PDF2XL by analyzing the word locations. This is (usually) the default option.
  • Rows from Lines - Rows will be automatically calculated by PDF2XL by analyzing the graphic lines inside the table. When you mark a table, PDF2XL will try to find graphic lines in the marked area, and if found, will use this option instead of Rows from Text for the table.
  • Create rows above column text - A new row will start whenever text is found in the selected column. This option will only be available when a single column is selected in a table
  • Create rows below column text - A new row will start just after a line of text is found in the selected column. This option will only be available when a single column is selected in a table
  • Create rows between column text - A new row will start exactly in the middle of text rows in the selected column. This option will only be available when a single column is selected in a table
  • All rows of same height - All the rows will be of the same height, which is set by the user. The columns will not be changed when the table area is changed, but the rows will be the same size as the first row; note that when resizing the table from the top, the row changes size.
This is somewhat similar to the Manual option below, but the row heights will be the same in the whole table, as opposed to the Manual option were each row can have a different height.
This option will only be available in Row and Column Editing mode
  • Manual - neither columns nor rows will be changed. This option will automatically be set for any table on which you have either moved a row separator marker, or has merged rows or cells
