Table of Contents User Interface Preview Area Output Preview

Output Preview

The output preview area displays a preview of what the selected text will look like when pasted into Notepad (for example) when the application is in Text Selection mode:

or the approximate results of conversion into Excel of the currently selected page layout in the displayed page when the application is in any of the other selection modes:

If you have set the current output to use the font attributes (size, color, italic, bold, and type of font) of the text to be converted in the Output setting page of the Settings dialog, and you have checked the Show font attributes in the preview box in the Advanced settings page of the Settings dialog, the preview data will also display the output using the font attributes that will be used when converting:

This option is set by default for Word and Powerpoint conversion, and is not set for Excel conversions.

Note that when you have set PDF2XL to use Convert into multiple sheets option and there are more than one table in the layout, the Preview area will display tabs - one for each table - containing the data for each table, similar to the different sheets that will be created by the conversion process. You can also use the tabs for renaming the table, by double-clicking the table name's tab and writing the new name in it.

If more than one table of the layout has the same name, the data from both tables will be converted into a single output table, so the data will appear on a single table tab.

You can hide or show the conversion preview using the Preview command from the View menu. You can also move the preview area to any side of the Document Window by grabbing the preview area's handle using the mouse and dragging it to the side of the document window; for example, if you have a wide monitor, you may wish to put the preview area on the right instead of on the bottom.

The output preview area will change into the Output Settings area if you use the Output Settings command from the Layout menu. To return to the output preview, just use the command again.

You can select columns, rows, cells and fields just like in the document area by clicking the appropriate part of the output preview.
When in regular editing mode, clicking any cell of a table or on the column header will select the whole column, and clicking on any cell or column that originated in a field will select the field.
In Row and Cell Editing mode, clicking on any cell will select the cell, and clicking on a row header will select the row.
To select more then one column, row, cell or field press <Control> while clicking the preview to add to the selection.

You can perform some operations on the selection by right-clicking it and selecting the appropriate command from the context menu.
