PDF2XL OCR product updates
Cogniview updates PDF2XL OCR from time to time, and PDF2XL OCR has a built-in mechanism to download and install new updates either automatically or manually when they are available.
Manual checks
You can manually check for updates using the command in the Help menu.
When you do this the Updating PDF2XL OCR dialog will open and PDF2XL OCR will contact Cogniview's Internet server to see if an update is available for your version.
If no update is available, you will see this message:

Note: If your firewall blocks access of PDF2XL OCR to web sites, then the check will fail and no new updates will be found.
Automatic checks
PDF2XL OCR can also check for updates automatically every time you run it. You can set this up in the Advanced Settings page.
Automatic checks are performed in the background. If a check or a download is in progress, the status bar will indicate this:

If you double click on this indication in the status bar, the Updating PDF2XL OCR dialog will come up; putting the cursor over the indicator will display a tooltip with more information about the check or the download.
If no update is available, no message is displayed. Instead the Updating PDF2XL OCR dialog will be closed (or the indication on the status bar will disappear).
Note: If your firewall blocks access of PDF2XL OCR to web sites, then the check will fail and no new updates will be found.
When an update is available
If an update is found by a manual check, a message will appear to notify you about it:

This message will also appear if an update is found by an automatic check, and the When found setting is set to "Notify".
This dialog window shows you some basic information about the available update, such as the version number and the most major changes in it. You may get additional detailed information about the new version by clicking on "More information...".
If you already purchased an update to the new version, then you may click on "Download" to start downloading the new version. PDF2XL OCR will then start downloading the new version and the progress will be indicated by the Updating PDF2XL OCR dialog and in the status bar.
If, however, you do not wish to update to the new version, then click on "Ignore", and PDF2XL OCR will not automatically notify you about this update again.
Note that even if you click on "Ignore", you can always get the update notification again using a manual check.
If you did not already purchase the new version, a slightly different message will appear:

You may click on "Purchase" to buy an update to this new version in Cogniview's web site.
Or, you may click on "Ignore" if you do not wish to update to the new version. PDF2XL OCR will not automatically notify you about this update again.
Note that even if you click on "Ignore", you can always get the update notification again using a manual check.
Updating PDF2XL OCR dialog
This dialog window may be opened during a check for update or during download of an update.

If you wish to continue working with PDF2XL OCR, you can let the update happen in the background by clicking on the "Work in Background" button. The update progress will then be indicated on the status bar instead.

You can click on the indication in the status bar at any time to bring back the Updating PDF2XL OCR dialog.
If you click on "Cancel", PDF2XL OCR will cancel the ongoing update.
Installing an update
After the download is finished, the following message appears:

Note: If the When Found option is set to "Download and Install", then this message will not appear, and the update will be installed the next time you run PDF2XL OCR.
If you wish to install the update immediately, click on "Install Now". PDF2XL OCR will close and the installer will start and perform the update.
If you select "Install Later", then you may continue to work with PDF2XL OCR. The next time you run PDF2XL OCR, you will be asked again to install the update.
