Table of Contents Operations Marking Fields Field Selection
Field Selection
Although most documents contain data in tabular form, some of the data exists in field form. For cases in which it is important to extract field data, PDF2XL OCR contains field selection and export support features.

Extracting data from fields consists of two stages:
- Marking the field(s) area
- Defining how the field will be exported to Excel
To mark the field area you must first enter the Fields Creation mode by selecting the Create Field Mode button from the Edit menu.
Once in Fields Creation Mode, mark the field by:
- Placing the cursor at the top-left corner of the field data area
- Click the right mouse button and drag the cursor to the bottom-left corner of the field data area
- Release the left mouse button
- The field you have created will be outlined by a blue line:
You should repeat this process for every field that contains data which is required in the final Excel sheet.
The field can be erased by selecting it, opening the context menu and selecting the Delete Field option.
You can change the field's border location by placing the cursor over the field border. Once the cursor changes to a two sided arrow, press the right mouse button and drag the field border to the desired location.
You can also move the whole field by dragging it by the drag handle on the top left corner. Additionally, you can drag multiple fields together by first selecting them (Shift+Click inside the field to add it to the selection), and then keeping the Shift key pressed when dragging one of them.
If you wish to keep the indentation and line wrapping of the field's contents, you can mark it as text and ensure that the appropriate options are set in the Format settings page.
You can also set the field's heading.
After defining the field area, you can define how the field will be exported to excel.
You can also extract images using image fields. You can set a selected field to be converted as an image using the Image conversion format (accessible via the Conversion Format of the Selection menu or the Context menu).
The following example demonstrates an image field marked on a document:

This image is then converted to Excel thus:
