Macworld Fanboy Frenzy

I am a Mac fan, but I don’t really understand what the big excitement is about Macworld. As I write this the Jobsnote has not started so any big news is yet to leak out, but still I do not expect to be as thrilled as lots of people are expecting.

What is it about Apple that has this impact on the media and public? Is it just the fanboys and journalists getting their underwear in a knot or are ordinary Jo and Joe public as fascinated? I doubt it.

Put it this way, there is unlikely to be a massive game-changing launch today. It’s not anticipated that something of the scale of iPhone will be announced. Of course if there is, and I am happy to be wrong in this case, all the speculation and frenzied breath-holding would have been worth it.

Let’s take a look at what is expected to be announced:

Perhaps I am just losing my geekness. It had to happen one day.

Are you excited about Macworld? Why?

I am only if this new product is a tablet (especially ala iPhone touch interface.) I’d love a tablet that is actually usable. I think most the frenzy is just knowing it could be SOMETHING new and everyone has their pet hope to what that thing is that will change their life forever (or not.)

Otherwise, I couldn’t care less. A new ultraportable? Eh. Minor software updates? Great, but not worth getting my “panties” in a wad.

It gives me something to watch (and compare coverage on) on my TV … ugh … I mean PC, now that the writers strike has killed every good TV show.

@Gideon – A tablet could be interesting but I am not super excited by it, and 50-50 if will be announced

@Charlie – Good point, in fact I just got into a show that was not picked up (Journey Man)

    Journeyman was cancelled?

Lord… and so ends the golden age of television. Never in my life has there been so much good television on at one time. Then this strike happened…. and all bets are off.

I don’t blame the writers and I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I really enjoy just a few shows and miss them.

As to tablet.. yeah, I’m not holding my breath right now. And for them to do it well, they’d need to drastically alter how tablets have been previously made and used.

It’s becoming a MAC world (no pun intended) and Steve Jobs is at the helm.

I have been a pc user for the last twenty years (all of my computer life) and for the first time I am almost over the fence to go MAC.
