@Jim - I would love one of those iMacs, I think I have spent so much time looking at them in store I have practically soiled the display models ;)

@Aaron - I seem to go through batteries at an alarming rate on my mouse and keyboard, and everytime I restart or switch them off I have to re-sync the bluetooth.

@Tony - The girl comment was definitely because my laptop is white with the smaller screen, but could as easily been because I was the easiest person to beat up that was using a Mac ;)

I'm on the fence with this one. I have been on a PC since I was a kid, a long time ago. I am going to need a new/updated computer very soon. I have heard horror stories about Vista, which makes me want to wait as long as possible. I just can't see going to the "other" side. I got a good laugh about MAC being a girl computer. I guess it depends on what color you get...

I made the switch a little over three years ago and haven't looked back since. I started with a 12" powerbook. Although it's cpu was fairly old, it continues to serve me loyally.

I have to second Jim's love for his new 24" alum iMac. I just got one and maxed out my ram. I don't think computing can get any better than this (at the moment at least).

The new wireless keyboard is great to. Although, I use it constantly, I've only replaced the batteries once!

Add another PC user (for the past 27 years) who made the switch to Mac over being disappointed in Vista and the hardware that's out with it now.

I absolutely love my alum. 24" iMac and can't wait to fire it up every night when I return home from work. Using it is a pure joy.

@Cameron - I have to say you are right about no PCs having the drool factor that macs do. Sometimes I wonder if I will get thrown out of the apple store for lingering too long ;)

@D'Arcy - Perhaps student budgets being what they are it balances out the ownership? I keep thinking of getting a Mac Mini as the family machine but for now Amy is going to have to put up with the XP box :)

Happy Maciversary! ;-)

Not sure if it's a UK thing, but around campus here at UCalgary, there are tons of white iBooks and MacBooks (and lots of BlackBooks, too). A handful of the silver MacBookPros and PowerBooks. They're most certainly not a "girl computer" - at least on this side of the pond. I'm planning on buying a white MacBook in the new year for the family to use.

Good post mate. I bought my first Mac (the Macbook Pro, not the girl's version) about 8 weeks ago after a lifetime of Microsoft, including 6 years working for them. I'm still a Gates fanboy and I would dearly love to see MSFT back on top of their game. While I don't think Vista sucks (I run it on my Lenovo desktop and while it has some issues, I've had no MAJOR problems), I also don't think OSX deserves the hype it gets from the mac fanboys. Sure, there are some cool things it does, but really, if you put OSX and Vista head-to-head, I think they come out pretty much even.

The Macbook Pro HARDWARE design though? Ohhhh. I still get a thrill every time I pull it out of my bag and open it up. Pure beauty. Never had a PC of any description before that made me weak in the knees. Mind you, for $4000, it would WANT to.
