Is the paperless office a reality in your small business? We didn’t think so. Most of us strive to get there but we have more pressing matters than stopping the presses. You can increase your profit in any industry if you go paperless.

You already know what you have to do, we’ve talked about it a few times on this blog and there are many other websites that provide information on going paperless. What we are going to talk about today is how going paperless saves your small business money, raises your eco-score and helps save the environment.

Unless your business is an office supply store, there is no reason to have 20 ten-ream boxes of printer paper stacked up in your supply closet.

Those stacks of 20 pound 8 ½ by 11 or 8 ½ by 14 sheets of paper probably aren’t the only pulp products in your office. There are sticky notes, note pads, file folders, all sizes of envelopes and probably some other forms of paper.

Depending on your business, you may have cash register receipt paper, pre-printed forms such as invoices and other sheets for recording information. There are also business cards and brochures.

There is also the paper that arrives at your office; cover letters and resumes, bills, advertisements, newspapers, catalogues and a host of other paper correspondence that needs to be sorted, filed, recycled or responded to in some way.

Add to that the cost of everything that goes along with paper. Printer and copier ink is a big expense.

Paying people to handle all of that paper is another expense. The more paper you handle, the more work hours you have to calculate as an expense.

Shipping that paper also costs you money in postage and courier charges.

I’m sure we could come up with even more costs. Let’s see – paper can be a fire hazard. Paper takes up room and requires storage space.

There are other forms of paper you can get rid of. Do you really need to use all of those paper towels and napkins? Ok, we draw the line at getting rid of toilet paper, but you should use a product made from 100 percent recycled paper.

We’re going into overkill now, but we think the message is clear. Paper is overwhelming our lives. Not just our work lives, we probably have just as much of it at home.

Moving your processes to a cloud-based system and using innovative software, such as a PDF to Excel converter allows you to save money by saving paper.

You probably want to know just how much you are going to save. We can’t calculate that for you. If you have a PDF to Excel converter you could add all those invoices to a spreadsheet to figure it out.

If you want to know right now, there are many free ROI paperless calculators online that can give you an idea of how much you will save by going paperless. Click here to go to one now and see how much you can save.

Why throw more money in the recycling box? Start now and make your small business a greener and paperless place to work.
